Haematology at Poliklinika Sente
A haematologist deals with diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs: anaemia, changes in white blood cell and platelet counts, enlarged lymph nodes and blood clotting disorders.
Patients are often referred to a haematologist because of an abnormal blood count, before any symptoms appear. The aim of the examination is to find out whether the change is temporary or a sign of a disease that needs treatment and follow-up.
At Poliklinika Sente the haematologist focuses in particular on blood clotting disorders: a tendency to bleed and a tendency to form blood clots.
Blood samples are taken at the Polyclinic, in cooperation with the Medlab laboratory, and blood vessels can be examined by colour Doppler when needed.

Colour Doppler is an ultrasound examination that shows the wall of a blood vessel and the flow of blood through it. It detects narrowing, widening and blood clots in the arteries and veins of the neck, head, arms and legs.
